This is my equivalent of porn...

Guys have Hustler, Barely Legal, Tig 'Ol Bitties, Girth Wind and Fire and whatever the hell else you dudes are looking at these days. And I have THIS. The Lakai Fully Flared intro. Between Spike Jonze, M83, explosives and skateboarding, it's enough to send me into a cosmic eruption!

happy Thanksgiving...

Coming out of my food and wine coma today, I wanted to wish everyone reading a Happy Thanksgiving!

Unfortunately, I couldn't get back down to the beaches of Florida to be with my family, but the weather was splendid here in Brooklyn and I managed to cook an entire Thanksgiving dinner (sans meat) without fucking anything up or burning down my house....

On that note, 2008 is coming to a close soon and I look forward to what next year will have in store for us (Obama!). And even more so, I look forward to a trip to Sweden with my younger brother Clark, then hopefully back down to France to see my beautiful friends...

Dear Santa...

I've been a good girl this year (more or less).
Can you please stuff these in my stocking come Christmas morning?
love,
goldie

"Element Skateboards has just partnered up with Switzerland's, The Imaginary Foundation to create a visually stunning, short stack of boards. The Imaginary Foundation was started in Geneva in 1973 as an experimental "think-tank" for new ideas. Invented by a posse of "free thinkers," the foundation went on to implement research that covered all creative endeavors. It's goal for each project was to "eliminate set conventions in favor of the humorous, the abstract and the visionary." How beautifully amazing is that? It sort of reminds me of a type of Willy Wonka ideology.
Be sure to go The Imaginary Foundation site for more on this unique program. It might inspire you to step outside your point of view just long enough to see something different."

Hello Brain, It's Me Goldie...

Last night was completely worth today's brutal, day-long hangover. Adrian Blanca's art opening at the eS showroom was super rad. Great art, good crowd, free booze. Def nothing to complain about there... It is still up and will be for a few weeks. You can go see it at 29 Greene Street (btwn Canal and Grand).

Then it was off to the Red Bull / Oakley Snowboarding party (Thanks, Craig!). WHAT, a shitshow. Open bar ALL night. Free swag (which I lost... typical). Fun friends. It was epic. Another one of those infamous New York City adventures...

Off again to dance with the night...

The Felice Brothers

The Felice Brothers released their self-titled American debut earlier this year. I didn't hear much about them at that time. But, luckily, I stumbled across their music recently, and am now a fan.
The story of the Felice Brothers is quite a unique one:

"Simone, Ian and James Felice are the three eldest boys from a family of seven, born carpenter's sons in the wilds of New York's Catskill Mountains. Less than a year ago, the Brothers adopted a runaway dice-thrower and chancer, a 19 year old called Christmas. They convinced him to quit his job and the motley quartet forsook all else but song and moved their Sunday BBQ sing-alongs from their dad's upstate house out onto the streets and subways of NYC.

After months of toil, living in a 1987 special education bus, with arrests, and genuine panhandler fun, a free-lance music writer named Gabe Soria (Mojo, Vice) stumbled upon the boys singing and barking their wares at a farmers market in Brooklyn and one thing led to another.

Now the Felice Brothers and blood brother Christmas all live, tour, sing, write and gamble together on their little bus. Their distinct brand of songwriting and the lawless sound they've forged has earned them comparisons to Woodie Guthrie, a young Springsteen to the Scorsese film Gangs of New York. The boys now travel the world performing homegrown and gritty Americana on the city stages as if they were hosting a sing-along on their own front porch surrounded by family and friends or playing the backroom of a dusty tavern"

A mix of Bob Dylan and back-country bluegrass, with a dash of a John Denver-esque vibe... It's the type of folk-rooted music that reminds me of my Dad (the most amazing dude ever). And it brings me back to the days of family road trips. Making our way out of Florida up to the mountains, to go backpacking along the Appalachian Trail.
They are playing in NYC on November 2. I will be there. I hope you will too...
On that note, I leave you with some of their jams:

My Boys Did It Again!

Brooklyn wonder-duo, Ratatat, did it... again. As per usual, they manipulated old video clips to create a visual mindfuck. And this time it's a journey through Mamma Mia! on a bad acid trip... Who would've thought Swedish pop stars could provide hallucinatory flashbacks?!

This vid is for the song Shempi, off their latest album LP3. By the way, ladies and gents, Ratatat is AMAZING live. If you have not seen them yet, I suggest you do as soon as you possibly can. I've seen only two shows but let me tell you, even the most 'four equal-distant 90 degree right angle' audience member can't help but uncross his/her arms and tap a foot... As for me? I danced so hard my knees needed WD-40 the next morning...

In Case You're Wondering...

I am now Lady Lurkington.
I have an affinity for animal hides and war paint, with braids in my hair and feathers in my braids.
I lurk the night on a black horse.
I smoke only Gitanes Blondes cigarettes and let the smoke curl around my abnormally small fingers embellished in gold rings. My hand is complete with a mangled pinky finger that got ravished in a wild cougar encounter in the mountains of Transylvania.
I roll with my co-captain, Lord Lurkington.
The Clyde to my Bonnie.
He carries a cane and wears a monacle and cape combo.
When he is feeling noble, he puts on an academic suit and writes haiku + occasional novella.
We have an elderly foul-mouthed female assistant who happens to be a hunchback.
She acts as the official bag carrier and beverage stand (hence the hump).
We combine our stellar forces to strike fear and jealousy into the hearts of our nemisises.

Now you know.
And knowing is half the battle...

I struck GOLD...

my little visit to Florida didn't only bring me sunshine, ocean and numerous Ozzie cuddle sessions. It gave me a trip down memory lane. I found all of my old diaries, journals and sketch books.

I pretty much struck gold. And it all makes sense now...

Decide for yourself... Here is just one of the many gems to come. This blog might very well turn into a Dear Diary of sorts, circa 1990-1993.

I heart FLwowrida...

So, yeah I'm on a temporary hiatus to sunny Florida. Oh boy oh boy, it's hot.

Turns out that it was Surf Expo (surf/skate trade show) this weekend in Orlando (god awful city) so I decided to take a little road trip down I-95 and over to I-4... Might as well re-teach myself how to drive! New York multitasking has trained me well: I realized that I am capable of driving, ipod DJing, drinking a cold beverage (non-alcoholic of course) AND textual harassment ALL AT THE SAME TIME.... Mom and Dad should be proud.

As per usual, it was pure insanity. So great to see all of my industry friends again. Forgot how much I missed being a part of all that. I will spare most details of the debauchery, but I DID manage to:

1. Bust my ass, in the middle of the Rosen Hotel lobby bar, in front of about 200 people, trying to carry a grown man on my back... face plant to skate deck... I should totally claim that trick! Move over T. Hawk. My left cheek is fucked. It hurts to smile. But I still gots my teeth and no blood was shed. ...oh you know, just another great decision made completely under the influence of alcohol!

2. NOT get a DUI.

3. Get called a Brooklyn hipster everywhere I went, and then befriend the only other chick from Brooklyn at that entire fucking convention. Apparently we stuck out.

4. Receive dozens of compliments on my neon pink lipstick. Yes, neon pink. Yes, I am THAT asshole who wears dayglo colored lipstick.

5. Finagle a grilled cheese sandwich dinner.... ah, sweet-talking. If it were an Olympic sport, I'd be a medalist.

6. Grow an infatuation with a little 7 year old shredding the skate ramp. I was tempted to snag him, bring him back with me and claim him as my own. But I decided to pass on the possible Amber Alert that I'd set off through the state of Florida... Giant creep status.

7. Listen to this song, on repeat, for 87 miles straight... Yup, that's right, 87 miles:

I'm tired.

Passion Pit does Piano's...

Wednesday night, Anthony, my male co-bandit, if you will,  joined me for a night of music.  We headed over to Piano's (on Ludlow) to catch Passion Pit.  Things started off well, as I ran into an old friend from Florida who was bartending there.  Great to see him, again.  (Thanks for the first round, Tony!)
Gates of Heaven opened for them... Ummm, yeeeeeah... It was kinda like watching a train wreck, complete with beaded tunics.  NEXT!
After the laughs and another vodka later, it was time for Passion Pit.  Energetic and cute group of guys.  Their music isn't groundbreaking, nor is it life-changing.  But it was FUN.  It was light-hearted.  I THOROUGHLY enjoy their catchy, synth-heavy sound.  I couldn't help but watch with a smile on my face, foot tapping and ass shakin'.  I remember thinking to myself "Sometimes you can enjoy and love music so much that it actually hurts..."  (...Though, that thought probably came courtesy of my dear friend, sir Stoli.) Passion Pit played for about an hour, closing with Sleepyhead (DUH!), which had everyone grinning and bouncing.  All the songs are off of their upcoming EP Chunk of Change.  I recommend seeing these guys before they blow-up, which I am predicting will happen...SOON.  They open for French Kicks on Sept. 24th at Bowery Ballroom.  I look forward to booking them in early 2009!  Thanks, guys!
(by the way, the Passion Pit dudes are all super nice, too. So, don't feel intimidated to walk up to them and strike up a conversation...)

Potent soul impregnation...

Now this on point! "Lollipop (Madstyle)" by Madison. A smokin' blonde songbird singing all naughty-like, covering a Lil Wayne jam?! Uncouth... and I love it!

...Total baby making music (sans the actual making of babies, please).
Turn this on and head straight to Makeout Mountain!

Who Might You Be?

Just a few things:
1) Why was I not around when a show like this existed?!
2) Who would've thought one word answers by a master of Surrealism could be so goddamn humorous?! Seriously!
3) Why don't people speak with that strange, proper accent in America anymore?
4) How tough is Dali's 'stache?!

The woman that figured it out is good. REAL GOOD...
